the Availability of
CURRICULUM
FELLOWSHIPS
$2,500.00
each
The
Institute of Social and Economic Research at UAA, with funding from the U.S.
Department of Education, has worked with educators to produce a Web site for
Alaskan teachers and students. The site features:
A
history of Native education, as told through
- documents
- photographs
- a timeline
- secondary accounts
K-12
curricula, including
- The Cup'ik People of the
Western Tundra
- ANCSA
Documents
and teaching resources, including
- interviews with elders
- The Alaska Natives Commission
Report
- literature by Alaska Natives
- Alaska Native languages
We
are currently looking for educators who want to work with us to develop K-12
curriculum around Alaska Native history, language, culture, especially in one
of the following areas:
- Reindeer Herding
- Traditional Life
- Alaska Natives and the Military
- Alaska Native Women
- Social and Economic Data
Proposal outlines
should include:
- A description of the educational
goals and objectives of the curriculum project.
- A list of the resources from the
NSCTD Web-site (www.alaskool.org) to
be included in the curriculum unit.
- A sample learning activity, including
objectives, materials, learning activities, and assessment.
- An explanation of how the unit
will meet state and national content standards in history, social studies,
or other areas.
Evaluation of Proposals:
Proposals will be evaluated by a
committee according to the following criteria:
- The degree to which the four (4)
proposal criteria are thoughtfully and completely addressed.
- The potential usefulness of the
curriculum to teachers and students throughout the state.
- The soundness of the educational
ideas that underlie the design of the unit.
- The qualifications of the applicant,
including his/her knowledge of Alaska Native history, language, and culture.
Final Product and
Timelines:
The final product will be produced
in html format with links to resources on the Web site (technical assistance
will be provided, if necessary).
Proposal Due:
January 21 (a resume must accompany your proposal)
Content/Educational Draft:
March 15
Technical Draft:
April 15
Deadline for Completed Unit:
May 15
